Cór Cois Abhann choir was founded in 1990 and takes its name from the river that flows through the centre of Cork.

 

The choir has performed large scale works such as:

·        Verdi’s “Messa Da Requiem

·        Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances

·        Mahler’s “Resurrection Symphony (No. 2)”

·        Durufle’s “Requiem (Opus 9)”.

·        Vivaldi’s “Gloria

·        J.S. Bach’s “Jesu, Meine Freude” (BMV 227)

 

Cór Cois Abhann have participated in concerts at prestigious locations such as Oireachtas in Dublin, Limerick University Concert Hall; Waterfront Hall, Belfast; St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork, St. John’s Cathedral, Tralee and The National Concert Hall, Dublin.

 

The choir has collaborated with the Fleischmann Choir, the East Cork Choral Society, the Belfast Philharmonic Choir, Cantari Mhuscari, Kerry Choral Union and Tallaght Choral Society.  Cór Cois Abhann assisted in the commemoration of the 700th Anniversary of the founding of the Augustinian Monastery in Fethard, Co. Tipperary by presenting “An Evening of Light Music” as part of the celebrations.

In addition to performing large scale works the choir has participated in the following competitions: Feis Mathiu, Cork, A.I.M.S. Festival, New Ross, the Cork International Choral Festival, and North Wales Choral Festival.

 

Cór Cois Abhann regularly performs a wide ranging repertoire of popular and classical music, which appeal to all tastes. A highlight for the choir is their annual participation at Christmas Eve Midnight Mass in the Honan Chapel, U.C.C. each year.
